For more than two decades, Chris Knight has carved his own lane in American songwriting. The Kentucky native has released nine acclaimed albums, played thousands of electrifying live shows, and built a fiercely loyal fanbase from Texas honky-tonks to Manhattan rock clubs. Hailed by The New York Times as “the last of a dying breed… a taciturn loner with an acoustic guitar and a college degree,” and praised by USA Today as “a storyteller in the best traditions of Mellencamp and Springsteen,” Knight has earned his reputation as one of the most uncompromising and respected voices in Americana.
His latest album, Almost Daylight, arrives after a seven-year recording hiatus and delivers some of the most powerful and unexpected work of his career. Known for vivid portraits of rural life and hard-lived characters, Knight continues that tradition here while also exploring themes of compassion, redemption, and love. Produced by Grammy-winner Ray Kennedy, the album blends Knight’s signature grit with expanded instrumentation and soaring musicianship, creating a sound that feels both raw and expansive. True to form, Knight remains fiercely independent in his approach. As he puts it, “If I don’t have something worth saying, I’m not opening my mouth.”
Opening the evening is Clarksville, Tennessee’s rising Americana rock band Still Moves. What began as a basement studio collaboration between Lucian Greene and Isaac Frost quickly grew into a full-band powerhouse known for its genre-blending sound and high-energy live performances. After releasing their debut EP Henry in 2022, the band continued building momentum with Until in 2023 and their self-titled album in 2024, which Cage Riot praised as “a genre-bending masterpiece.” With the additions of Cody Kirby on drums, Dalton Akins on bass, and Michael Davidson on keys, Still Moves has evolved into a dynamic five-piece delivering a powerful mix of rock, Americana, and psychedelic influence.
Whether on a small dive bar stage or a festival crowd, Still Moves brings the same passion and intensity to every performance, making them the perfect opener for a night of powerful songwriting and unforgettable live music.
Join us at Songbirds for an evening featuring one of Americana’s most respected storytellers alongside one of Tennessee’s most exciting rising bands.
